Family Novelty Cake

Family Novelty Cake

Wedding season is in full swing now and the last week has been incredibly busy for me. The great news is I have been spending many hours making one of my most favourite things ‘Bride and Groom toppers’.

Wedding cake trends change every year from fashionable flowers to cake shapes and styles. Although, one thing that always seems to continue being popular is bride and groom toppers.

Bride and Groom toppers are made out of an edible medium called Flower Paste. Although these toppers are made from edible paste and colours, they do dry extremely hard so consumption is not advisable.

Why not keep them instead as they are perfect to keep for many years to come and serves as a wonderful memory of your special day!

Traditionally, cakes were topped with ornamental Bride and Groom figures. However, the possibilities are endless these days; Your toppers can be as creative and original as your imagination.

These bespoke and handmade toppers are designed to reflect your personalities and fit in with your wedding’s scheme and colours. It’s always a good idea to look at previous designs for inspiration.

Last week I made a Bride and Groom topper for a lovely couple, Rafal and Karolina. Rafal proposed to Karoliina in Cape Town on a rock. Their idea for the wedding cake topper was to re-create the scene but also in a way where they could reflect their wedding day celebrations too!

We decided to have – Karoliina sitting on a suitcase with a label saying ‘cape town’ in her beautiful ivory dress covered in lace. The lace on her topper’s dress matched a small part on her actual wedding dress, and the colours of the flowers also matched her bouquet. Rafal’s topper’s wearing the suit on his wedding day, was down on one knee proposing to her with a ring in his hand along with a big smile!

Here is a selection of close up pictures showing you all the little details.
